Voluntary Counselling & Testing for HIV
The HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing service is integrated into FPATT’s sexual and reproductive health services . The service was introduced at the Port-of- Spain Clinic in May 2006 and has since been extended to De Living Room and the San Fernando Clinic. This service is also available through our Healthlink programme
It is a highly confidential service provided by trained personnel certified by the Ministry of Health and CAREC. FPATT uses the Rapid test** a test that uses four (4) drops of blood from a finger prick**, and the results are available in fifteen (15) minutes.
If a person tests positive he/she is referred to the Medical Research Foundation (MRF) for treatment. If negative, the client is counseled on safe sex practices to avoid future risk of exposure to HIV.
