For Men Only
Clinic
health
tests for men . . .
The 'For Men Only Clinic'
was launched in June 1996 in response to the need for
increased testing for prostate cancer and to respond
to other sexual and reproductive health problems
related to men. At present, prostate cancer is the
second highest cause of death for men, after heart
disease, and is particularly common in African
men.
services
offered include . . .
- digital prostate
gland examination
- prostate specific antigen
testing (blood test referral)
- blood pressure testing
- urine testing for sugar and
albumin
- contraceptive and
counselling services
but there
is still a great need for testing and education . .
.
In June of this year, this
clinic was launched at the San Fernando facility. Data
collected by the Family Planning Association reveals
thus far that there seems to be a great need for
testing and education in the area of male reproductive
and sexual health issues. This is because a
disproportionate number of men have had to be referred
for further testing for problems which may be related
to prostate cancer, hypertension and diabetes.
